Police Assessment Center Prep’s In-Basket (In-Out) Box Course
One of the most intimidating parts of the police promotional exam, the In-Basket (In-Out) Box is one of the most challenging mental and organizational exercises you’ll face.
Traditionally, an In-Basket exercise simulates a work situation and tests your managerial skills. You’re decision-making abilities, time constraints, and organizational skills will take a beating as you prioritize which tasks to do first, which workloads to focus on, and how to delegate which tasks —all under a time constraint. Many organizations use the In-Basket (In-Out) Box as an assessment tool, including the Department of Justice
You may think you have great skills in delegating tasks, prioritizing job situations, and managing people until you take the In-Basket (In-Out) box test for the police promotional exam. It’s estimated about a quarter of police promotional candidates fail this portion of the exam their first time through for one reason: they didn’t prepare.
Police Assessment Center Prep’s In-Basket (In-Out) Box training course will give you the tools to pass this part of the police promotional exam. Consisting of an actual In-Basket worked live for you, you’ll get to see the thought process in action. In addition, you’ll receive a practice In-Basket as well to apply what you’ve learned and simulate the testing situation.

You must take notes. Then, a detailed work scenario is given, which you must analyze.
The In-Basket portion of the police promotional assessment test is perhaps the most telling of all the tests for police promotions. The In-Basket tests your organization skills, delegation skills, and, most importantly, your judgment skills. Add in the pressure of the situation, and this is as close to simulating an actual police chief’s job.
The In-Basket test is not easy and should not be underestimated. Like a cat, the complexity of the situation looks warm and fuzzy on the outside, but once you dive in, you’ll experience the inner roar of the mountain lion.
